Communications Specialist

Wabash College seeks a talented writer and content generator who will be an integral member of the Communications and Marketing team. The ideal candidate is a strategic and creative storyteller who is well-versed at content planning, development, and delivery in all of its forms – short and feature-length print and web writing, press releases, targeted emails and newsletters, social media, and stewardship communications. This is a full-time, in-person position. Some nights and weekends are required.
Qualified Candidates Must Possess:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated ability to write convincingly across multiple formats
- Ability to distill information or a story to its most compelling form
- Critical thinking and planning skills with a willingness to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills
- Social media knowledge
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
The Communications Specialist:
- Reports to Director of Communications and Editor of Wabash Magazine
- Collaborates with others to provide comprehensive and creative coverage of the College, extending stories, video, and photography across multiple platforms (e.g., print, web, social), and ensuring brand consistency across all channels
- Contributes to Wabash Magazine as directed by the editor
- Produces engaging stories under tight deadlines for a variety of platforms including social media, videos, websites, print, and marketing campaigns
- Initiates contact and build relationships with experts and others who can add valuable commentary and color to stories
- Writes press releases for general distribution
- Works with the Cinemaphotographer to craft videos in support of marketing goals
- Other duties as assigned to assist and support departmental goals
